  • Armstrong Artisan Farm

Armstrong Farms began in 2009 with the marriage of Austin and Jessica. While they had already been raising lambs, they began to diversify and follow more strict management practices to ensure the best quality of the meats that they were producing.

Austin is a graduate from North Carolina State University and double majored in Agriculture Business Management and Animal Science. Jessica is a graduate of Wake Forest University, majoring in English and with a minor in Anthropology. They have added four children to their flock- Abilene, River, Scott Wilkes, and Alice.

Jessica and Austin took the knowledge they had about sheep and the discipline ascertained through sheep flock management and applied it to all other areas of the practice. Armstrong Artisan Farms now produces top quality Artisan pasture-raised pork, lamb, fresh eggs, and pasture-raised beef.

  • Mabe's Berry Farm

Mabe's Berry Farm has been owned and operated since the first strawberry plant was planted in 1967 and is one of the oldest strawberry farms in North Carolina. Founder, W.G. "Bill" Mabe and wife Emma bought the farm in 1962 and wanted to farm something other than tobacco so the first strawberries were planted. Bill and Emma had four daughters Debbie, Tina, Cindy, and Christy. Bill passed away in 2002 and his family decided to continue on with the family business. Tina Mabe Tamer and husband Paul have since taken over the blueberry side with the help of their daughter Sarah. Christy Mabe Rogers along with husband Mike and children Justin and Nicole run the strawberry side of the farm. The rest of the Mabe family helps whenever needed whether it is irrigation or picking.
