    Fans of The Andy Griffith Show can step back to a simpler time when they visit Mount Airy. Actor Andy Griffith grew up here, and it’s no coincidence that a stroll down Main Street in the "Friendly City" reminds people of the town of Mayberry on the endearing popular ‘60s hit TV series, The Andy Griffith Show. Fans of the show can visit Floyd’s City Barber Shop, the Old Mayberry Jail, Snappy Lunch, and even Andy’s childhood home. You’ll be sure to relish the generous spirit of The Andy Griffith Show that you encounter wherever you go.

  • Priddy's General Store

    It's all here, waiting for you to take a trip down memory lane, where old times are never forgotten. Priddy's is where you can forget the mad rush; Where time stands still. Where you can slowly peruse the things of the past, letting your mouth water at the sight of homemade jams, jellies,baked goods, old fashioned candies..

    Priddy's General Store has been an important part of the Danbury community for as long as most local old timers can remember. In 1888 the building was built by the Hartman Family, and in 1929 N.D. and Lula Priddy purchased the building and opened "N.D. Priddy Grocery". Their son J. Elwood and his wife Pat took over the store in 1960. Since 1999 (after Elwood Priddy's death) Jane Priddy Charleville manages the store for her mother, Pat. Jane is the 3rd generation Priddy to operate the store with continuing the old traditions and maintaining the rustic atmosphere.

  • Sauratown Trails

    The Sauratown Trail is a unique 25 mile bridle and hiking trail that connects Hanging Rock and Pilot Mountain State Parks. It is an official section of the North Carolina Mountains-to-Sea Trail, and is maintained by the Sauratown Trails Association. Our trail is unique because we rely on the generosity of private landowners who allow us to build, use and maintain trails on their property. The trails may be used by all horseback riders and hikers regardless of whether or not they are a STA member. The trails are located in Stokes and Surry Counties in north-central North Carolina.

    Dan River Company

    In 2003, David Hoskins bought the property where they are currently located and set about restoring the old building to house the young outfitting company. In 2012 the Dan River Company moved into a newly constructed smaller building on the property making room for the original riverside facility to become The Green Heron Alehouse in 2013.

    From that small start in 2001 the Dan River Company has become the premier river outfitter in the Piedmont and the only river outfitter based in Stokes County. Located in Danbury, NC, they are your go-to outfitters for traveling the river in canoe or kayak, or just relaxing while tubing!

  • Jessup Mill

    Jessup Mill – Stokes County’s most unique outdoor recreation destination! Jessup Mill is the 100-year-old restored grist mill, standing on the banks of the Upper Dan River, less than 30 minutes from the Blue Ridge Parkway, Hanging Rock State Park and Pilot Mountain State Park.

  • Carolina Ziplines Canopy Tour

    Carolina Ziplines Canopy Tour was opened in 2007 and was purchased by the new owners, Keith and Barbara Bollman in 2010. Keith and Barbara brought with them a “family vibe” having 12 children and 26 grandchildren. They re-designed the zipline in 2018 and today you can enjoy eleven different canopy ziplines.

  • The Arts Place

    Located in the heart of Stokes County in the county seat of Danbury, The Arts Place features locally themed souvenirs and trinkets to purchase as a memento and memory of your visit to Stokes County. Stop in to find key chains, postcards, T-shirts, baseball caps, and other locally crafted items.

  • Neatman Creek Disc Golf

    Neatman Creek Disc Golf Course is a private course owned and operated by the Tedder family. The course winds along Neatman Creek, with beautiful views of Hanging Rock, rolling hills, beautiful pastures, and mature forest.

  • John Brown's Country Store and Grill

    Established in 1984, John Brown opened up a fruit stand with just a few boxes of produce and grocery items. After 7 years, John sold the business and struck out to spread his wings in the restaurant business founding J & J (John and Joan) cafeteria in King, NC. 5 years later, John and Joan decided to semi retire and live a much slower pace. It didn't take long for John and son "Tic" to get the itch to find another store location. That's when John and Tic came across the current location. John passed away in October of '98 and Tic as been running the business ever since.

    John Brown's Country Store takes you back to the good ole days-a time when people traded stories and spent afternoons watching the world from the front porch. Our wide selection of jams and jellies, old fashioned candies, fresh produce, local honey, snack mixes, and homemade items like our signature pimento cheese, cole slaw, chili, potato salad, chicken salad, and macaroni salad promises to be a delightful taste that keeps you coming back for more.

    In addition to the country store, the grill was added in 2001. From homemade desserts, fresh burgers, wings, hot dogs, BBQ, and our famous Chicken Stew, the grill has helped John Brown's become a landmark in the community.

  • Horne Creek Living Historical Farm

    Once the Hauser family farm, Horne Creek enables visitors to experience farm life in North Carolina's northwestern Piedmont circa 1900. The site features the family's original farm house, a tobacco curing barn, a corn crib, adjacent fields under cultivation, and even a heritage apple orchard. Through programs ranging from old fashioned ice cream socials to an annual corn shucking frolic, Horne Creek Living Historical Farm provides a unique opportunity to learn about our rural past.

  • Moratock Park & Iron Furnace

    Featuring picturesque views of the Dan River. The park has a shelter, restroom facilities and a ball field and provides access to the river for tubing, kayaking, canoeing, and water/beach fun.

    The historic Moratock Iron Furnace is located inside the park by the Dan River and is one of the best preserved structures remaining from the antebellum period in North Carolina. Stokes County was one of many piedmont counties that contained iron ore deposits. The Moratock was used to produce usable bar iron and currently measures approximately 28 feet square at the base and is constructed of rough-quarried granite blocks.

  • Hillbilly Hideaway Restaurant

    Here at the Hillbilly Hideaway Restaurant, our process starts in the kitchen.  Our cooks are “home trained!”  Then, that good home cookin’ food is rolled out on the carts by the “nicest waitresses” that can be found.  They are always, “friendly,” “courteous,” and “anxious” to serve you and bring you all you care to eat! After a good meal you can take a stroll across the parking lot to our GIFT SHOP, and to the “MUSIC HALL.”  Both are open seasonally March thru August.

    In the “MUSIC HALL” you can enjoy approximately three hours of Gospel, Bluegrass, and Country Music –all at “no extra charge!”

    The Hillbilly Hideaway Restaurant is 100% Non-alcohol, so feel free to bring the “young-uns.”  Bring Grandma and Grandpa, why you can even bring the Preacher!  Church groups are welcome.  We also welcome tour buses.
